Statement
Let be a bounded domain and let be a finite set. Let be a subharmonic function on that is bounded above. Assume that for every . Then on .
Remarks
Proof idea: let be the diameter of and let . The function is subharmonic, and on because each logarithm is negative there. At each , since is bounded above; so at every boundary point. The maximum principle for subharmonic functions gives , and letting gives . The bound from above is needed. On the punctured disc with , the function is harmonic, tends to on the unit circle, and is positive on . The finite set may be replaced by any polar set in , with the same conclusion.

For a student
The lemma is the bounded form of the Phragmén–Lindelöf principle: a growth condition lets one ignore a small part of the boundary. Applied to for a bounded holomorphic , it shows that on when at all but finitely many boundary points. A related result for holomorphic functions on a half-strip is Lindelöf's theorem. In the study of harmonic measure the lemma shows that finite sets of boundary points carry no mass.
