Functions of a complex variable Complex integration Theorem
Holomorphic functions are analytic
Builds on Holomorphic functionPower series in the complex planeCauchy's integral formula
Statement
Let be an open set and let be holomorphic on . Let and be such that the open disc is contained in . Then there are complex numbers such that the power series converges to for each . For each with , the coefficients are In particular, is analytic on : near each point of , is the sum of a convergent power series.
Remarks
Proof idea: in Cauchy's integral formula, expand as a geometric series in , and integrate term by term. The radius of convergence of the Taylor series at is at least the distance from to the boundary of . For example, the Taylor series of at has radius , the distance from to the point where the function is not defined. The converse is also true: power series are holomorphic in their disc of convergence.
