Definition
Let be a complex manifold. An entire curve in is a nonconstant holomorphic map . The manifold is Brody hyperbolic if there is no entire curve in , that is, if every holomorphic map is constant.
Remarks
Example: the unit disc is Brody hyperbolic, since a holomorphic map is a bounded entire function, hence constant by Liouville's theorem. Example: a compact Riemann surface of genus is Brody hyperbolic, because an entire curve would lift to a holomorphic map from to its universal covering, the unit disc. Non-example: and the complex projective space contain lines and , so they are not Brody hyperbolic. Every Kobayashi hyperbolic manifold is Brody hyperbolic, since an entire curve gives . For compact the two notions agree by Brody's lemma; for noncompact they can differ.
