Functions of a complex variable Definition
Holomorphic function
Builds on Complex differentiability
Definition
Let be an open set and let be a function. The function is holomorphic on if is complex differentiable at each point of . Let . A function is holomorphic at if is holomorphic on some open disc with center .
Remarks
Polynomials in are holomorphic on , and is holomorphic on . Sums, products, quotients with a nonzero denominator and compositions of holomorphic functions are holomorphic. Each holomorphic function is analytic, see holomorphic functions are analytic. For this reason, many authors use the words holomorphic and analytic for the same functions. A function that is holomorphic on all of is an entire function.
