Functions of a complex variable Complex integration Theorem
Cauchy's integral formula
Builds on Holomorphic functionCircle integral
Statement
Let be an open set and let be holomorphic on . Let and be such that the closed disc is contained in . Then for each with , where the integral is the circle integral over the circle .
Remarks
The values of on the circle determine the values of at each point inside the circle. With and , the formula gives . So is the average of on the circle. For , the formula is the integral of 1/(z - a). The formula gives the formula for the derivatives, and it shows that holomorphic functions are analytic.
