Builds on Vector fieldPartial derivative

Summary

The divergence of a differentiable vector field is a scalar function. At each point, it measures the net rate of outward flow of the field per unit volume. In Cartesian coordinates it is the sum of the partial derivatives ∂Fi/∂xi\partial F_i / \partial x_i of the components.

Reading path

To understand this page from the ground up, read these 7 pages in order. The foundations come first.

Show the path as a graph
Each page uses the pages above it. The colour of the bar on a box shows how strong the evidence is, and the box also gives it as text. The list has the same pages.

What this page needs for W2

  • edge instance_of in: at least two examples (0 of 2)
  • edge not_instance_of in: at least one non-example (0 of 1)
  • edge specializes both: the more general notions and the special cases (0 of 1)

The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
