Five-point stencil
Builds on Finite difference coefficientsLaplacian
Definition
Let be a grid spacing.
- In one dimension, the five-point stencil at is the set of points . The associated formulas for a function are
- In two dimensions, the five-point stencil at is the set of points , , . The associated five-point Laplacian of a function is
Remarks
The one-dimensional weights are the finite difference coefficients for the stencil . For , the first formula has error for some in , so it has order ; the second has order for . Check of the second formula on at : . For , each one-dimensional second difference has error at an intermediate point, so and the five-point Laplacian approximates the Laplacian to second order. Non-example: the nine-point and the diagonal five-point stencil also approximate , the latter as , but it uses different points and is not the five-point stencil defined here.

What this page needs for W1
- an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
- a source with a locator (0 of 1)
The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
