Jacobian matrix
Builds on Partial derivativeDifferentiable function of several variables
Definition
Let be open, let , and let . Suppose that each partial derivative exists at , for and . The Jacobian matrix of at is the matrix whose entry in row and column is . Other notations are , and .
Remarks
If is differentiable at , then for each column vector . Row of is the transpose of the gradient of at . For , the Jacobian matrix is the gradient written as a row. For the polar map , the Jacobian matrix is . For , its determinant is the Jacobian determinant.
