Statement
Let be a bounded connected open set and let . Let be a holomorphic map with . Suppose that the complex Jacobian matrix of at is the identity matrix. Then for all .
Remarks
The proof uses iteration. Take and suppose that , where is the first nonzero homogeneous term of degree in the Taylor expansion of . The -th iterate of then has the expansion . All iterates map into the bounded set , so the Cauchy estimates bound their Taylor coefficients independently of , which forces .
A consequence: if are biholomorphisms of onto a domain with and the same Jacobian matrix at , then . So an automorphism of a bounded domain is determined by its value and its derivative at one point.
Boundedness is necessary. On the map fixes and has the identity as Jacobian matrix at , but it is not the identity map.
Going deeper
For a student
The theorem is the basic tool for studying the automorphism group of a bounded domain. It shows that the map sending an automorphism fixing to its Jacobian matrix at is injective. With it one proves that automorphisms of a bounded circular domain fixing the origin are linear maps. It is also a step toward showing that the automorphism group of a bounded domain is a Lie group.
