Kodaira dimension
Builds on Algebraic varietyCanonical bundleDimension of an algebraic variety
Definition
Let be a smooth projective variety of dimension over a field , and let be its canonical bundle. For , the -th plurigenus is . The Kodaira dimension is defined as follows:
- If for all , then .
- Otherwise, is the least integer such that is bounded as .
Remarks
Always . Equivalently, when some , is the largest dimension of the image of the rational map over all with . The variety is of general type if .
Example: for with , , so has no nonzero sections and . For a smooth projective curve of genus , and Riemann–Roch gives for , which grows like , so .
Non-example of clause 2 with : the curve of genus has unbounded, so its Kodaira dimension is not .

What this page needs for W1
- an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
- a source with a locator (0 of 1)
The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
