Lanczos sigma factor

Summary

The Lanczos sigma factors are the weights σk=sin⁡(πk/m)πk/m\sigma_k = \frac{\sin(\pi k/m)}{\pi k/m} by which one multiplies the terms of a truncated Fourier series of order mm. The weighted sum, called the sigma approximation, equals the average of the partial sum over a window of length 2π/m2\pi/m around each point. This local averaging greatly reduces the overshoot near jumps known as the Gibbs phenomenon. The factors are named after Cornelius Lanczos.

What this page needs for W1

  • an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
  • a source with a locator (0 of 1)

The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
