Laplace transform of the Heaviside step function

Builds on Laplace transformHeaviside step function

Example

Let HH be the Heaviside step function, with H(t)=0H(t) = 0 for t<0t < 0 and H(t)=1H(t) = 1 for t>0t > 0, and let a≥0a \ge 0. The delayed step f(t)=H(t−a)f(t) = H(t - a) is 00 on [0,a)[0, a) and 11 for t>at > a. Its Laplace transform is ℒ{H(t−a)}(s)=e−ass(Re⁡s>0).\mathcal{L}\{H(t - a)\}(s) = \frac{e^{-as}}{s} \quad (\operatorname{Re} s > 0). Check: for Re⁡s>0\operatorname{Re} s > 0, ∫0∞H(t−a)e−st dt=∫a∞e−st dt=lim⁡T→∞e−as−e−sTs=e−ass.\int_0^\infty H(t - a) e^{-st}\, dt = \int_a^\infty e^{-st}\, dt = \lim_{T \to \infty} \frac{e^{-as} - e^{-sT}}{s} = \frac{e^{-as}}{s}. The value of HH at the single point 00 does not change the integral. For a=0a = 0 this is ℒ{1}=1/s\mathcal{L}\{1\} = 1/s. A rectangular pulse H(t−a)−H(t−b)H(t - a) - H(t - b) with 0≤a<b0 \le a < b has transform (e−as−e−bs)/s(e^{-as} - e^{-bs})/s, by linearity.

What this page needs for W1

  • an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
  • a source with a locator (0 of 1)

The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
