Mean curvature flow
Definition
Let be a smooth -dimensional manifold and let . A mean curvature flow is a smooth map such that:
- for each , the map is an immersion of as a hypersurface;
- for all and .
Here is the mean curvature vector of at . The vector is a unit normal vector, and is the mean curvature, the sum of the principal curvatures with respect to .
Remarks
Example: let for in the unit sphere , with . The sphere of radius has mean curvature vector of length pointing to the centre, so the flow condition is . This holds since , and the flow exists until . Non-example: moves the sphere outward, against the mean curvature vector, so it fails clause 2. A plane or any minimal hypersurface, with , is a stationary flow. Sign conventions for and vary, but always points toward the centre of a round sphere.

What this page needs for W1
- an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
- a source with a locator (0 of 1)
The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
