Mellin convolution

Summary

The Mellin convolution of two functions ff and gg on (0,∞)(0, \infty) is (f⋆g)(x)=∫0∞f(x/y)g(y) dyy(f \star g)(x) = \int_0^\infty f(x/y) g(y) \, \frac{dy}{y}. It is the convolution of the multiplicative group (0,∞)(0, \infty) with its invariant measure dy/ydy/y. The Mellin transform turns it into a product: ℳ(f⋆g)=ℳf⋅ℳg\mathcal{M}(f \star g) = \mathcal{M}f \cdot \mathcal{M}g where both transforms converge absolutely. It describes, for example, the law of a product of independent positive random variables and many integral operators with homogeneous kernels.

What this page needs for W1

  • an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
  • a source with a locator (0 of 1)

The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
