Modulus of smoothness
Definition
Let , let be an integer, and let . Let , an Lp space element; for let be continuous on . For , the -th forward difference of with step is For , the modulus of smoothness of order of is
Remarks
Example: for on and , one has and , so and .
Non-example: the norm of the difference at a single step is not a modulus of smoothness, because it need not grow with . For on and , one has but ; the supremum over is what makes nondecreasing.
For and , is the modulus of continuity of . One has as , and .

What this page needs for W1
- an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
- a source with a locator (0 of 1)
The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
