Definition

Let Σ\Sigma be a signature, a set of function symbols each with an arity n≥0n \ge 0. For a set AA, let 𝒫∗(A)\mathcal{P}^*(A) be the set of nonempty subsets of AA, a part of the power set. A multialgebra of signature Σ\Sigma is a set AA together with a map fA ⁣:An→𝒫∗(A)f^A \colon A^n \to \mathcal{P}^*(A) for each symbol f∈Σf \in \Sigma of arity nn. Here AnA^n is the Cartesian power of AA. Each map fAf^A is a multioperation on AA.

Remarks

An ordinary algebra is the same as a multialgebra in which every value fA(a1,…,an)f^A(a_1, \dots, a_n) has exactly one element. Some authors allow the empty set as a value; then partial algebras are also multialgebras.

Example: A=ℝA = \R with the binary multioperation x∘y=[min⁡(x,y),max⁡(x,y)]x \circ y = [\min(x, y), \max(x, y)]. Each value is a closed interval that contains xx, so it is nonempty.

Non-example: A={0,1,2}A = \set{0, 1, 2} with x∘y={z∈A:z>x+y}x \circ y = \set{z \in A : z > x + y}. For x=y=1x = y = 1 the value is {z∈A:z>2}=∅\set{z \in A : z > 2} = \emptyset, so ∘\circ is not a multioperation in the sense above.

What this page needs for W1

  • an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
  • a source with a locator (0 of 1)

The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
