Multidimensional transform
Builds on Integral transformKernel of an integral transformMultiple integral
Definition
Let , let be a measurable set, and let be a set. Let be a function, the kernel. Let . Its multidimensional transform with kernel is a multiple integral, defined at those where the integral converges absolutely. For functions on the integral is replaced by a sum over .
Remarks
The transform is separable when , and . Then, by Fubini's theorem, is the composition of the one-variable transforms with kernels applied in each variable.
Example: and give the -dimensional Fourier transform, a separable transform since .
Non-example: the Radon transform sends a function on to its integrals over hyperplanes. It is not of the form above with a function , since each value is an integral over a set of measure zero.
