Nemytskii operator
Builds on Measure spaceMeasurable functionLp space
Definition
Let be a -finite measure space and let be a Carathéodory function:
- for every , the map is measurable;
- for almost every , the map is continuous.
The Nemytskii operator of sends each measurable function to the function given by Under the two conditions, is again measurable.
Remarks
A theorem of Krasnosel'skii describes the spaces case. Let be measurable with Lebesgue measure, and let . Then maps into if and only if there are and with for almost every and all . In that case is continuous and maps bounded sets to bounded sets.
Example: with Lebesgue measure and . Both conditions hold, and , so maps into ; indeed .
Non-example: the map is not a Nemytskii operator. The value at depends on all values of , not only on .
Other names are superposition operator and, for independent of , composition operator.

What this page needs for W1
- an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
- a source with a locator (0 of 1)
The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
