Definition
Let be a function, called the activation function, and let be integers. A shallow neural network with neurons is a function of the form Let be the set of these functions. Let be a compact set and let be continuous. Neural network approximation of is its approximation by elements of , measured by the error
Remarks
Other norms, such as norms on , are also used. A deep network with layers is a composition of affine maps , with and , where acts on each coordinate; the shallow case is . The set is in general not a linear space, since the sum of two networks with neurons may need neurons. For continuous , as for all and if and only if is not a polynomial. Example: for the ReLU , , and , one has , so . Non-example: for , every element of is an affine function, so on the function has for every and is not approximated.

What this page needs for W1
- an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
- a source with a locator (0 of 1)
The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
