Nonlinear integral equation
Definition
Let . A nonlinear integral equation on is an integral equation for an unknown function that is not a linear integral equation. The most common form is the Urysohn equation Here is or , is given, and is a given function that is not affine in its third variable.
Remarks
Example: on is nonlinear, with . A solution has the form , where . This gives , so the equation has the two complex solutions and no real one.
Non-example: is linear, since is affine in .
When the equation is called a Hammerstein equation.
