Definition
Let be a complex analytic space. A point is normal if the stalk is an integrally closed domain. The space is normal if every point of is normal.
Remarks
A normal space is reduced, since an integral domain has no nonzero nilpotents.
Example: the cusp is not normal at . Its local ring is isomorphic to by , . The element of the field of fractions satisfies , so it is integral, but it does not lie in .
Non-example of another kind: the cross is not normal at , because its local ring has the zero divisors and , so it is not a domain.
Example: is normal, since the ring of convergent power series is factorial, and factorial domains are integrally closed.
For a reduced space , there is an equivalent form. The space is normal if and only if the following holds for every open . Every function on that is holomorphic on the regular points and locally bounded is holomorphic on .
