Normed vector space

Builds on Norm

Definition

Let ๐•‚\mathbb{K} be โ„\R or โ„‚\C. A normed vector space over ๐•‚\mathbb{K} is a vector space VV over ๐•‚\mathbb{K} together with a norm โˆฅโ‹…โˆฅ\norm{\cdot} on VV.

Remarks

A normed space is a metric space with the distance d(x,y)=โˆฅxโˆ’yโˆฅd(x, y) = \norm{x - y}. A normed space that is complete for this metric is a Banach space. Each inner product space is a normed space with the induced norm. On a finite-dimensional space, all norms are equivalent, so they define the same topology.

Reading path

To understand this page from the ground up, read these 3 pages in order. The foundations come first.

Each page uses the pages above it. The colour of the bar on a box shows how strong the evidence is, and the box also gives it as text. The list has the same pages.

What this page needs for W2

  • edge instance_of in: one example (0 of 1)
  • edge not_instance_of in: one non-example that fails one clause (0 of 1)

The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
