Definition

Let Ω\Omega be a sample space of a random experiment. An outcome of the experiment is an element ω\omega of Ω\Omega.

Remarks

Two different outcomes cannot both happen in one trial. An outcome ω\omega gives the event {ω}\{\omega\}, an elementary event. An outcome and an event are different things: an event is a set of outcomes. For a roll of a die, the outcomes are 1,2,3,4,5,61, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and "the result is even" is the event {2,4,6}\{2, 4, 6\}, not an outcome.

What this page needs for W2

  • edge instance_of in: one example (0 of 1)
  • edge not_instance_of in: one non-example that fails one clause (0 of 1)

The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
