Picard group
Definition
Let be a ringed space. The Picard group is the set of isomorphism classes of invertible sheaves on , with the operation It is an abelian group with identity and inverse , where .
Remarks
For a field and , , with . For , is the Picard group of the ring . If is a principal ideal domain, every invertible sheaf on is trivial, so . There is a natural isomorphism with the first cohomology of the sheaf of units.
