Definition
Let be an open set. A function is plurisubharmonic if:
- is upper semicontinuous;
- for every and such that the set lies in ,
Remarks
Clause 2 says that for all the function is subharmonic or identically on each component of its domain. Many authors also require that is not identically on any connected component of . A function of class is plurisubharmonic if and only if Example: has complex Hessian equal to the identity matrix, which is positive definite, so is plurisubharmonic. Non-example: is smooth, but on the line it is , which is not subharmonic, so clause 2 fails at , . Plurisubharmonic functions are subharmonic as functions on , but the converse fails, as the non-example shows. The abbreviation "psh" is common.
