Polygamma function
Builds on Digamma function
Definition
Let be the digamma function and let be an integer. The polygamma function of order is the meromorphic function
Remarks
The series , with the Euler–Mascheroni constant, can be differentiated term by term. For this gives where is the Hurwitz zeta function.
Example: for and the series gives .
Non-example of a valid argument: at with an integer the term of the series is infinite. There has a pole of order .
The function is the digamma function and is the trigamma function. The recurrence follows by differentiating times.
