Pure weights

Summary

A highest weight μ\mu for GEG_E is a family (μτ)(\mu_\tau) indexed by the set S∞S_\infty of infinite embeddings of the base field EE. Each μτ\mu_\tau is a dominant weight of the diagonal torus of GL3\mathrm{GL}_3, written as a triple (mτ+,mτ−,vτ)(m^+_\tau, m^-_\tau, v_\tau).

The weight μ\mu is pure when vτv_\tau is the same for all τ\tau in S∞S_\infty, and mτ+=mτ−m^+_\tau = m^-_\tau for every τ\tau.

The source paper uses this condition when it studies divisibility of automorphic periods for the base change of GL3\mathrm{GL}_3 to a real quadratic field.
