q-exponential

Summary

The qq-exponential eq(z)=∑n≥0zn/[n]q!e_q(z) = \sum_{n \ge 0} z^n / [n]_q! is the q-analog of the exponential function. It is the solution of Dqf=fD_q f = f, f(0)=1f(0) = 1, for the q-derivative DqD_q, just as eze^z solves f′=ff' = f. By the q-binomial theorem it is an infinite product, and it tends to eze^z as q→1q \to 1. A second qq-exponential EqE_q satisfies eq(z)Eq(−z)=1e_q(z) E_q(-z) = 1, which replaces the rule eze−z=1e^z e^{-z} = 1.
