Definition
Let be a sequence of complex numbers, with Z-transform . The region of convergence of is the set
Remarks
Let and , with the conventions and . By the root test, the open annulus lies in the region, and no point with or does. This is the radius of convergence argument applied to each half of the Laurent series. Points on the circles and may or may not belong to it. Example: for and for has region ; the point fails because diverges. Non-example: is not in the region of (), since diverges. Some texts add the point to the region of a sequence with for , or for a sequence with for .
