Regular scheme
Builds on Noetherian schemeStalkRegular local ringKrull dimension
Definition
A scheme is regular if it is locally Noetherian and for every point the stalk is a regular local ring. Here a Noetherian local ring with maximal ideal and residue field is regular if , the Krull dimension of .
Remarks
A regular local ring is an integrally closed domain, so a regular scheme is normal. Example: is regular. Its local rings are , of dimension with , and , of dimension with spanned by . Non-example: the cusp over a field is not regular at the origin. There the local ring has dimension , but has basis , since ; so its dimension is .
