Example
Let , and let , , be the vertices of an equilateral triangle of side in the plane. The Reuleaux triangle is the intersection of the three closed discs of radius centred at , and . Its boundary consists of three arcs of circles of radius : the arc from to centred at , and the two similar arcs. Each arc has angle .
Its boundary is a curve of constant width . Check: take a unit vector and the two supporting lines orthogonal to . The arc centred at consists of the points with in an angle of size . Its outer normal at is . The outer normals of the body at the vertex are the vectors with . These six angles of size cover all directions. So for some vertex, say , one of and lies in and the other is an outer normal at . Then one supporting line passes through and the other through a point of the arc centred at . The distance between the two lines is .
The perimeter is . The area is the sum of three circular sectors of angle minus twice the triangle: .
