Robin constant
Definition
Let be a compact set in . For a Borel probability measure on , let be its logarithmic energy, with values in . The Robin constant of is with when for every such .
Remarks
The logarithmic capacity of is . If and is the unbounded component of , the Green function of with pole at infinity satisfies as .
Example: let be the circle of radius centred at and let be normalized arc length on it. For the mean value of over the circle is , so . This is the minimizer, so . The Green function of the outside of the circle agrees with the expansion above.
Non-example of a finite value: for the only probability measure is , and , so .
Some authors use the opposite sign or the energy kernel , so that the Robin constant becomes .
