Schur stable polynomial
Builds on Root of a polynomial
Definition
Let be a polynomial of degree with complex coefficients. The polynomial is Schur stable if every complex root of satisfies .
Remarks
Example: has roots . Each has modulus , so is Schur stable.
Non-example: has roots and . They have modulus exactly , so the strict inequality fails and is not Schur stable.
Some authors call such polynomials simply stable in a discrete-time context, or say that has all its zeros in the open unit disc. The polynomial is Schur stable if and only if its reversed polynomial has all its roots outside the closed unit disc, provided .
