Sesquilinear form
Builds on Vector space
Definition
Let be a vector space over . A sesquilinear form on is a map such that, for all and :
- and .
- and .
Remarks
Here the form is linear in the first argument; many authors, especially in physics, use linearity in the second argument instead. A sesquilinear form is Hermitian when for all . On , each sesquilinear form is for one complex matrix . A complex inner product is a positive definite Hermitian sesquilinear form.
