Sparse approximation

Summary

Let AA be a matrix with more columns than rows and let bb be a vector. Sparse approximation looks for a vector xx with few nonzero entries such that AxAx is close to bb. The columns of AA form a redundant dictionary, so bb has many representations, and one wants the sparsest. The exact problem is NP-hard in general. In practice one uses greedy methods such as matching pursuit, or convex relaxations such as basis pursuit and the Lasso. It is the core of signal compression, denoising and compressed sensing.

What this page needs for W1

  • an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
  • a source with a locator (0 of 1)

The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
