Definition
Let and be integers and let be a real matrix, called the measurement matrix. A vector is -sparse if it has at most nonzero entries. Compressed sensing is the problem of recovering an unknown -sparse vector from its measurement vector . Its standard method is basis pursuit: output a solution of The matrix allows recovery of -sparse vectors if every -sparse is the unique solution of this problem with .
Remarks
It is the case of sparse approximation, restricted to data that come from a sparse vector. Suppose every columns of are linearly independent. Then an -sparse is the only -sparse solution of , since two such solutions differ by a -sparse vector in the kernel of . A matrix with the restricted isometry property of order and constant allows recovery of -sparse vectors by basis pursuit. Example: , , , . The solutions of are , and is minimal exactly at , so basis pursuit returns . Non-example: for and , the -sparse vectors and give the same , so no method can recover both.

What this page needs for W1
- an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
- a source with a locator (0 of 1)
The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
