Square-integrable kernel
Builds on Kernel of an integral equationMeasurable functionLebesgue integralLp space
Definition
Let . A square-integrable kernel on is a kernel that is Lebesgue measurable and satisfies where the integral is the Lebesgue integral.
Remarks
Example: for on . Here , and for each , so .
Non-example: on . For , , so the double integral of is infinite.
In other words, lies in the Lp space . Every continuous kernel on is square-integrable. For , the function lies in and , by the Cauchy–Schwarz inequality. The same definition is used on a measurable subset of .
