Strong maximal function

Summary

The strong maximal function of a function ff on ℝn\R^n is a supremum of averages of ∣f∣\abs{f}. At a point xx, it is taken over all rectangles that contain xx and have sides parallel to the axes. Unlike the Hardy–Littlewood maximal function, it allows rectangles of any shape, long and thin in some directions. It is bounded on Lp(ℝn)L^p(\R^n) for 1<p≤∞1 < p \le \infty but is not of weak type (1,1)(1, 1) when n≥2n \ge 2. It controls multiparameter averages and is the basic maximal operator of product, or multiparameter, harmonic analysis.

What this page needs for W1

  • an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
  • a source with a locator (0 of 1)

The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
