Definition
Let be an algebra with universe . A subuniverse of is a subset of closed under all fundamental operations, as for a subalgebra. Let be the set of all subuniverses of . The subalgebra lattice of is the partially ordered set . Its meet and join are where is the generated subuniverse.
Remarks
The intersection of any family of subuniverses is a subuniverse, so is a complete lattice. It is an algebraic lattice. Its compact elements are the subuniverses with finite, that is, the finitely generated ones.
Example: for the group the subuniverses are the sets with . Here if and only if divides , and with .
Non-example: the lattice of all subsets of is not the subalgebra lattice of this group. The subset is not closed under addition, so it is not a subuniverse.
When the signature has no constant symbols, the empty set is a subuniverse and is the least element of . Some authors exclude it and call only nonempty subuniverses subalgebras.

- an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)

The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
