Successor order
Builds on Partial orderSuccessor function
Definition
Let be a partially ordered set, and write when and . A successor order on is a map such that:
- for all .
- If , then is a maximal element of .
- If , then .
Remarks
When is not maximal, the clauses say that is the least element of ; when is maximal, . So the map, if it exists, is unique.
Example: with . Check: ; the inequality never holds, so clause 2 is empty; and for integers means . On this is the successor function.
Non-example: with the usual order has no successor order. No rational is maximal, so clauses 1 and 2 force ; then satisfies , which breaks clause 3.
The dual notion is a predecessor order.
In Mathlib this is the class SuccOrder.

What this page needs for W1
- an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
- a source with a locator (0 of 1)
The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
