Trace of an integral operator

Summary

The trace of an integral operator with a continuous kernel K(s,t)K(s, t) on [a,b][a, b] is the integral of the kernel along the diagonal, ∫abK(s,s) ds\int_a^b K(s, s) \, ds. It is the continuous analogue of the sum of the diagonal entries of a matrix. In Fredholm theory, minus the trace is the coefficient of λ\lambda in the Fredholm determinant D(λ)=1−λ∫abK(s,s) ds+⋯D(\lambda) = 1 - \lambda \int_a^b K(s, s) \, ds + \cdots. For a trace class operator with continuous kernel, it equals the operator trace and the sum of the eigenvalues.

What this page needs for W1

  • an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
  • a source with a locator (0 of 1)

The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
