Translation equation

Summary

The translation equation is the functional equation F(F(x,s),t)=F(x,s+t)F(F(x, s), t) = F(x, s + t) for an unknown map F ⁣:X×ℝ→XF \colon X \times \R \to X. Its solutions with F(x,0)=xF(x, 0) = x are the flows on the set XX, that is, actions of the additive group ℝ\R on XX. So it is the basic equation of continuous-time dynamical systems and of iteration with non-integer exponents. With the real line replaced by a group, it becomes the equation of a group action.

What this page needs for W1

  • an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
  • a source with a locator (0 of 1)

The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
