Ultrafilter on a Boolean algebra
Builds on Boolean algebraOrder filter
Definition
Let be a Boolean algebra with order . A filter of is a subset such that , for all , and whenever and . It is proper if . An ultrafilter of is a proper filter such that for every proper filter with , one has .
Remarks
The filters of are the nonempty order filters of seen as a lattice. For a proper filter , these are equivalent. (a) is an ultrafilter. (b) For every , exactly one of and lies in . (c) is prime: implies or . Ultrafilters correspond to homomorphisms , by .
Example: in the power set of a set , for , the family is an ultrafilter. It is a proper filter, and for each , either or .
Non-example: in the power set of , the family is a proper filter but not an ultrafilter. It contains neither nor its complement , and it lies in the larger proper filter .

What this page needs for W1
- an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
- a source with a locator (0 of 1)
The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
