Weak order of permutations
Builds on PermutationSymmetric group
Example
Let and let be the symmetric group of permutations of , written in one-line notation . The inversion set is the set of pairs of values with such that stands left of in . The weak order on is defined by when . It is a partial order, and it is a lattice. The covering relations are the moves that swap two adjacent entries standing as . Such a move adds the single pair to the inversion set. The least element is the identity , and the greatest element is the reversal .
Check for . The inversion sets are , , , , , and has all three pairs. So the weak order is the two chains and . The elements and are incomparable, since .
Remarks
The weak order is graded by the number of inversions. Its Hasse diagram for is a hexagon. The Bruhat order has more relations: there .

What this page needs for W1
- an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
- a source with a locator (0 of 1)
The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
