Several complex variables and analytic spaces Definition
Weierstrass polynomial
Definition
Let , write , and let be the ring of convergent power series in variables. Let be an integer. A Weierstrass polynomial of degree in is a monic polynomial with coefficients such that for every .
Remarks
Equivalently, is monic of degree and . The only Weierstrass polynomial of degree is . Example: is a Weierstrass polynomial of degree in , since , and all vanish at . Non-example: is monic in , but its coefficient does not vanish at ; indeed . The same definition is used with replaced by the ring of holomorphic functions on a neighbourhood of .
