Z-transform as a generating function
Builds on Unilateral Z-transformGenerating functionRadius of convergence
Definition
Let be a sequence of complex numbers. Its ordinary generating function is the power series , with radius of convergence . Its unilateral Z-transform is . The generating-function form of the Z-transform is the identity with the conventions and .
Remarks
Example: with has with , and for , which is its Z-transform. Non-example: a two-sided sequence with some for has a bilateral Z-transform with positive powers of . These become negative powers of , so the result is a Laurent series in and not an ordinary generating function. Under , the disc of convergence of becomes the outside of a circle. The shift rule corresponds to for generating functions.

What this page needs for W1
- an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
- a source with a locator (0 of 1)
The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
