Abel's lemma for multiple power series
Builds on Power series in several variablesPolydiscUniform convergence
Statement
Let be a power series in several variables with centre . Let and be such that for every . Let and . Then for every , and the series converges absolutely and uniformly on .
Remarks
For one has , and is a product of geometric series; the Weierstrass M-test concludes. If all , every compact subset of the polydisc lies in some , so the series converges absolutely there, uniformly on compact subsets. In particular, convergence at one point with all already gives convergence on this whole open polydisc. Example: for and , all terms have modulus , so the series converges on . The same series also converges on , so its domain of convergence is larger than any single polydisc given by the lemma.

For a student
The lemma is the first step in describing where a power series converges. It shows that the domain of convergence is a union of polydiscs centred at , hence a complete Reinhardt domain. Combined with Hölder's inequality it gives the logarithmic convexity of the domain of convergence. It also shows that the sum is a uniform limit of polynomials on compact sets, hence holomorphic.
