Admissibility condition for wavelets
Builds on Lp spaceFourier transform
Definition
Let (see Lp space), and let be its Fourier transform. The function satisfies the admissibility condition, and is called an admissible wavelet, if
Remarks
If is also in , then is continuous, and admissibility implies . Conversely, if and , then is Lipschitz with , and is admissible. The constant is the factor in Calderón's identity for the continuous wavelet transform.
Example: the Mexican hat is admissible. It decays fast and , so the converse criterion applies.
Non-example: the Gaussian has . Near the integrand behaves like , which is not integrable, so .
