Airy function
Builds on Airy equationGamma functionModified Bessel functions
Definition
For real , the Airy functions of the first and second kind are where the oscillatory integrals are improper Riemann integrals. Both extend to entire functions of that solve the Airy equation .
Remarks
The two functions are fixed by their initial values , , , , where is the gamma function. Their Wronskian is , so they are independent. Example: is the solution that tends to as , where with ; for it equals with the modified Bessel function . A non-example: solves the equation but is not , since it grows like as . For , .
