Born series

Summary

The Born series is the expansion of a scattered wave in powers of the scattering potential. It is obtained by iterating the Lippmann–Schwinger equation ψ=ϕ+G0Vψ\psi = \phi + G_0 V \psi, which gives ψ=ϕ+G0Vϕ+G0VG0Vϕ+⋯\psi = \phi + G_0 V \phi + G_0 V G_0 V \phi + \cdots. It is the Liouville–Neumann series of this integral equation. So it converges when the operator G0VG_0 V is small, for example for weak potentials or at high energy. Its first term beyond ϕ\phi is the Born approximation, the standard first estimate of scattering amplitudes.

What this page needs for W1

  • an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
  • a source with a locator (0 of 1)

The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
